The Project to Restore the
Przerosl Jewish Cemetery

Restoration, Phase 3

In Phase 3, the cemetery grounds are restored. Vegetation is cleared, fallen headstones are righted and reset, broken headstones are repaired. All headstones are cleaned; the inscriptions are transcribed, translated, and posted on the project website.

Estimated funds required for Phase 3: $8,000
Donations received for Phase 3: $701

In August 2005, perhaps for the first time in 60 years, the grounds of the Przerosl Jewish Cemetery were cleared.

According to the invoice for the clearing project (which was paid by donations received via this website), the project included the following tasks:

  • Clearing bushes and shrubs.
  • Mowing grass and weeds.
  • Clearing "self-sown" trees (trees that were not deliberately planted, but rather that have grown as a result of the decades-long neglect of the property).
  • Spraying bedding (litter) in the cemetery area with herbicides to eliminate weeds and prevent their re-growth. (This operation is to be repeated in some time to secure complete elimination of weeds.)
